Depression is one of the more general mental health conditions. Labeling a condition as “depression” is a vague description as the symptoms of depression can vary and are numerous. The one advantage of treating the symptoms of depression over most other mental health conditions and their symptoms is that people who experience the symptoms of depression recognize that they have a condition that needs attention in the first place. At the same time, most sufferers of depression will not recognize the condition is serious if, in fact, it is. Many times individuals who suffer from depression require the assistance of friends and family to take the first step in seeking professional help.

Individuals who show some of the following symptoms of depression, chronically, may be clinically depressed:

  • continual sadness
  • weariness
  • bad temper
  • changes in appetite
  • changes in sleep patterns
  • aches and pains
  • problems focusing
  • and/or suicidal thoughts or tendencies.

Not everyone who is depressed experiences every symptom. It is important to note that some people experience a few of the symptoms of depression, while others may experience all of them. Severity of the symptoms of depression will vary depending on the person and will also vary over time.

The symptoms of depression are definitely treatable as long as the treatment is effective and consistent. Without some sort of treatment, the symptoms of depression will likely become more and more severe as each episode occurs.
