Hypnotic Tracks - Hypnotherapy

As a hypnotherapist I am often asked to assist with confidence development. As part of my regular screening process I ask clients to undertake a questionnaire, which assists with the process of pinpointing their specific issues. I have gradually developed a view of confidence which has proved to be very useful in analyzing the specific areas where an individual needs to develop.

This approach is based on 5 components of confidence :

  • Social Confidence
  • Peer Independence
  • Status Confidence
  • Physical Presence
  • Stage Presence

These terms are all described in depth on the Confidence Club website.

Out of this work we have developed a questionnaire which not only identifies the specific components of confidence which require attention, but which also points to other personality traits. We are now using the questionnaire to help people who have not previously identified confidence as a specific issue.

This, I think, is an observation which will resonate with many anxiety sufferers; confidence is not a stand-alone quality, but one which pervades all aspects of our psychological health and wellbeing. All too often I encounter anxious clients who feel, in some way, deficient - as though their anxiety is some kind of personal failing. The simple act of completing a questionnaire, and finding that their anxiety symptoms are not irrational, and relate to objectively measurable personality traits, is often a source of comfort.

With any condition, we often have a sense of 'there but for the grace of God go I', yet with psychological conditions this empathy is sometimes absent. I would love to see a wider appreciation of the very normality of anxiety, and an awareness that it is founded on universal human qualities.
